It showed up Tuesday at one of the corners around Madison Square Garden, part of a promotion for Kyrie Irving’s new Nike Kyrie 6, which the Nets new guard had debuted the night before at Barclays Center. But its placement and its message was hardly subtle.
Oh Nike, you animals.
As Brian Lewis wrote, “When the Knicks hoped to see a lot of Kyrie Irving’s face around the Garden, this isn’t what they had in mind.”
No one at Nike has been quoted about the signage, but it would seem that —how could it not— that Irving wanted it right where it was, visible from the Madison Square Garden corporate offices, a reminder that Irving was and is a Nets fan.
