Nets News: Nets to trade Marcus Thornton to Cavs for Jarrett Jack?

In today's Nets news update, the Brooklyn Nets are in talks about a trade with the Cleveland Cavs which would send Jarrett Jack to the Nets in exchange for Marcus Thornton.

Here's the lowdown from Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio:

According to Grantland's Zach Lowe, both the Nets and Cavs have relatively clear aims for what their trying to accomplish in this swap:

Potential Jack move (via @ESPNSteinLine) looks like hedge against Livingston leaving in free agency. For CLE, it's $ and getting a wing..

Jarrett Jack still has two guaranteed years left on his contract with the Cavs - a risk that the Nets seem willing to take if it means picking up insurance Livingston potentially walking in free agency. With the Nets hampered by the luxury tax, ESPN's Marc Stein reports that they can only offer Livingston a three-year, $10 million deal. That may not be enough to keep him.

For the Cavs, Marcus Thornton's expiring contract would give them salary cap flexibility for the summer of 2015 - where they hope to be major players on the free agent market. Also, Thornton could provide them valuable bench production next season, with the chance they could re-sign him at a discount next summer.

We will have more on this story as additional information is made available.
