In Brooklyn Nets news today, point guard Deron Williams will be undergoing surgery on both of his ankles next week, according to the New York Post.
“Deron will undergo surgery on both ankles next Tuesday,” Dr. Martin O’Malley, the Nets’ surgeon who will perform the procedure, stated on Thursday. “He will have a bone chip removed from his right ankle, and the left ankle will have an arthroscopic cleanout with removal of spurs from both the front and back of the ankle. Deron is expected to make a full recovery.”
The timetable for Deron Williams' return is unknown as of yet, but is expected to be announced after surgery is completed.
After the Nets were eliminated by the Heat in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, Williams stated that surgery could be an option. He also spoke later on about how he feels that he's let the team down after signing a five-year, $98 million contract to stick with the Nets in July of 2012:
“I mean, I feel like I’ve kind of let people down, so I don’t like feeling like that,” Williams said when the team was cleaning out their lockers in preparation for the offseason. “I take my job serious, I work hard in the offseason, I work hard every day."
"It’s just real frustrating not to be able to play how I’m capable of playing.
