The Brooklyn Nets have a ton of decisions to make in free agency this offseason, but these are three guys who shouldn't factor into the front office's plans while drawing up a July wishlist. Here's our list of 3 Free Agents The Brooklyn Nets Should Avoid This Offseason.
SF Kyle Singler
Singler can fill it up from the mid-range on out when he's on, but it just so happens that he was completely off his mark after being traded to Oklahoma City from Detroit in the Reggie Jackson/Enes Kanter highlighted three-team swap. All of his primary and peripheral offensive stats plummeted despite being thrust into a starting role right away in place of an injured Kevin Durant, and his defense was one step below putrid. The Thunder allowed an eye-popping 110.9 points per 100 possessions with Singler on the floor and opponents shot 52.4% with Singler as a primary defender -- eight percentage points higher than their normal shooting percentage.
SF Luke Babbitt
We're not sold on Babbitt as a regular rotation player at the three despite his nutso 51.3% clip from beyond the arc in a limited on-court sample with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2014-15. He's a major regression candidate if/when somebody overpays him for an extended role he's not built to take on, meaning he'll likely see his shooting numbers to his normal range of 39% from the field and 38% from the arc. He can fill it from long range, but he's too streaky to invest a lot of minutes in.
C JaVale McGee
McGee is both fickle from a basketball passion standpoint and injury prone. The Nets are in need of a backup big man and it's possible they could get JaVale on a relatively cheap flyer, but the problem is that his game has never matched up with his talent. Call it bad luck or whatever you want, but McGee comes with a fair amount of baggage that isn't worth Brooklyn's trouble at this juncture.
