BOWLING GREEN — The 1983-84 Bowling Green State University hockey team will forever be remembered as one of the greatest in school history not only on the ice, but across all sports.
A comeback for the ages helped the Falcons capture its first and only NCAA Division I hockey national championship when BGSU turned a 4-2 deficit in the third period into a wild 5-4 quadruple overtime victory over Minnesota-Duluth at the Olympics Center in Lake Placid, New York.
With BGSU celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1984 national championship team at Saturday night’s game against Michigan Tech at Slater Family Ice Arena — hall of fame coach Jerry York and members of that title team are scheduled to be back on campus — The Blade took a look at how the fourth-ranked Falcons were able to pull off the win over the top-ranked Bulldogs.
