YPSILANTI, Mich. — Amy Velasco topped the 1,000-point mark for her career Saturday, but the Bowling Green State University women’s basketball team was dealt a 59-54 loss at last-place Eastern Michigan in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Velasco, who scored eight points in the game, reached 1,000 with a first-quarter layup.
Eastern Michigan (7-22, 3-15 Mid-American Conference) struck quickly, outscoring Bowling Green 26-9 in the first quarter and eventually building a 19-point lead. The Falcons, who made just 4 of 16 field-goal attempts (25 percent) in the first quarter, tried to play catch-up from there, trimming the Eagles’ lead to 32-21 at halftime and 45-38 after three quarters.
