BOWLING GREEN — Regardless of what happens to Bowling Green State University women’s basketball in the Mid-American Conference tournament, the Falcons have to be excited for the backcourt of the present — and future.
This is the second straight season in which coach Robyn Fralick and her staff have taken a freshman point guard, molded her into a star-caliber player, and taken that player’s game to the next level heading into the postseason.
Last year, it was Lexi Fleming.
This year, it’s Amy Velasco.
“We knew she was going to be really good, we just didn’t think she was going to have to be this counted on in her freshman year,” Falcons assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Joel Whymer said of Velasco.
