BOWLING GREEN — An erratic start to the season convinced Michael Huger a change was necessary for Bowling Green, but he nonetheless had a tough sell.
Huger, the Falcons’ fifth-year coach, made a drastic change by taking two seniors, Antwon Lillard and Jeffrey Uju, out of the starting lineup. Both would continue to play off the bench, Huger told them, but he thought the move could be the jolt the Falcons sorely needed.
After dropping their first game with the new lineup, Huger’s idea proved correct: Bowling Green has won nine consecutive games, the program’s longest such run in 17 years.
