BOWLING GREEN — On Feb. 15, 2000, Anthony Stacey's phone rang.
The Bowling Green senior was 13 points from moving into first place on the school’s scoring list, and on the other end of the line was the man who owned the record.
Howard Komives, the Toledo native and former Bowling Green standout, had a favor to ask. Komives informed Stacey that he would be sitting courtside for the next night's game against Kent State, so if the record would fall, Komives asked Stacey to make it happen when both men were present at Anderson Arena.
When the two hung up the phone, Stacey felt his heart in his throat.
