BOWLING GREEN — In an instant, one announcement took a projected $2.2 million out of Bowling Green's 2020-21 athletics budget.
The Big Ten's decision to scrap non-conference games, if a 2020 football season is played, meant BG's football team will not play scheduled dates at Ohio State and Illinois, both of which came with seven-figure game guarantees.
Bowling Green director of athletics Bob Moosbrugger had advance notice the decision was likely, and the contracts still could pay out at some point.
But it was yet another budgetary challenge in a year full of them.
