MANHATTAN, Kan. — The NCAA denied Bowling Green quarterback Matt McDonald’s waiver appeal to be immediately eligible during the 2019 season, Bowling Green confirmed Saturday.
McDonald, a transfer from Boston College, petitioned the NCAA for a waiver that would have allowed him to play his first year at Bowling Green, but the NCAA denied the bid and upheld its ruling through the appeals process.
McDonald, a redshirt sophomore, must sit out this season before returning to the field in 2020. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
The NCAA’s ruling leaves Bowling Green with only two scholarship quarterbacks for the duration of this season.
