BOWLING GREEN — The top player in the North American Hockey League during the 2023-24 season stuck with his commitment to Bowling Green State University despite a major change in the program’s leadership.
The relationships he built with the returning assistant coaches, as well as the incoming mentor in Dennis Williams, were a big reason why.
“The coaching staff was huge,” said Maxwell Martin, a freshman forward for the Falcons. “Obviously losing the coach that you had committed to is an interesting thing to go through as a commit, but then seeing another coach come in that you also want to play for and see the same values that you see as a hockey player, and wanting to play for a guy like him was an easy decision not to go anywhere else.
