‘Lucky’ Musburger revels in time spent in sports booths

MOBILE, Ala. — Brent Musburger says he gets a check for $25 every year.

“That’s how I know somebody is putting Bobby Boucher, ‘the greatest linebacker of all time,’ up on cable television,” Musburger said, breaking into a grin while referencing his role in the movie, The Waterboy.

“But I have never forgiven Dan Fouts for saying, ‘Shut up, Brent.’ ”

Musburger was the featured speaker at the Mayor’s Luncheon for the GoDaddy Bowl on Tuesday at the Mobile Convention Center. And the famous announcer, who has spent more than 40 years broadcasting a wide spectrum of sports, told stories about his time in the profession.
