Ottawa – Bowling Green State University redshirt sophomore Kaila Butler will represent Team Canada in the hammer throw at the 2019 Summer Universiade (FISU), as announced by Athletics Canada today. The bi-annual World University Games will celebrate its 30th anniversary July 3-14 in Napoli, Italy and will feature nearly 9,300 athletes and delegates from 128 countries.
A native of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Butler is the reigning Mid-American Conference hammer throw champion. She won the title by more than 12 feet just a week ago by throwing the hammer 209-feet-9. She is ranked among the top 20 collegiate throwers and will be a favorite to advance through the NCAA preliminary round to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
