BOWLING GREEN — In the moments before the biggest game of his life at the time, Scot Loeffler’s career path took a sharp, swerving, unexpected turn.
Michigan was readying itself to play rival Ohio State in 1993, and Loeffler, then a freshman backing up Todd Collins at quarterback, sustained an injury that would change everything. The unranked Wolverines went on to hammer the No. 5 Buckeyes 28-0 that day, but Loeffler knew something was amiss with the rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder.
“I did it right before the game [while] warming up, and I didn’t tell anyone for about a week and a half,” Loeffler said.
