BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green State University’s men’s basketball team never trailed for the first 38 minutes of its Mid-American Conference opener against Akron on Friday, but a difficult finish led to a heartbreaking defeat as the Zips pulled out a 71-68 victory at the Stroh Center.
Akron (8-5) took its first lead of the game with 1:09 left when Isaiah Gray buried a corner 3-pointer to make it 68-65. Overall, the Zips finished the final 2:14 on a 9-3 run.
BGSU (5-8) had several chances to tie the game or take the lead in the final 20 seconds.
