OXFORD, Ohio — Bowling Green State University appeared to make a couple of game-changing defensive plays in its favor right before halftime.
It turned out to be significant for the Falcons for all of the wrong reasons.
When BGSU’s Jordan Oladokun intercepted a deep pass from Brett Gabbert around midfield, the turnover was negated when Darren Anders was called for a roughing the passer penalty. Later in the drive, when Gabbert’s pass in the end zone sailed over the head of Cade McDonald, Shamoun Duncan-Niusulu was called for pass interference.
The two tough penalties against the Falcons helped set up a 2-yard touchdown pass from Gabbert to Nate Muersch and give the RedHawks a 14-0 lead heading into halftime.
