BOWLING GREEN — After Payton Gottshall struck out 20 batters in the Bowling Green State University softball team’s season-opening win at Cleveland State last Friday, a letdown was only natural.
The next day, she struck out only 16 hitters.
In a perfect game.
Hey, nobody’s ... wait a minute!
I touched base — er, checked in (no one touches base) — with Gottshall after she was named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's pitcher of the week in recognition of one of the finest series of performances in college softball history.
Yes, ever, which I say without a trace of hyperbole.
