MUNCIE, Ind. — A big second quarter was the difference on Wednesday as Ball State defeated Bowling Green 81-73 in the Mid-American Conference women’s basketball opener for both teams.
The host Cardinals outscored the Falcons 24-14 in the second quarter to take a 39-28 lead into halftime. Ball State made 3 of 4 3-pointers in the second quarter, going 8 of 16 from the field during that stretch.
No Ball State player finished with more than one 3-pointer, but the lead generated from the team’s hot streak from outside held up.
Bowling Green closed to within three points midway through the second half, with Lexi Fleming stringing together a layup and a 3-pointer, but the Cardinals responded with a 10-2 run to go back up 55-44 with 2:09 to go in the third.
