AKRON — Bowling Green State University coach Scot Loeffler’s plea after his football team closed out Akron by the narrowest of margins was simple and concise.
“That’s what we need to do — find a way to end games,” he said. “So my heart can rest.”
Even if it was hard-earned, the Falcons brought Loeffler some of the respite he asked for with a 31-28 win over the Zips at InfoCision Stadium. It was Bowling Green’s first victory in a conference opener since beating Buffalo 28-22 on Oct. 3, 2015.
It was a rare kind of contest on Saturday: a back-and-forth game in which one team — the Falcons — never trailed.
