NEW YORK — Bowling Green State University’s volleyball team defeated St. John’s in five sets Saturday to advance to the championship match of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship.
The Falcons (25-9) topped the Red Storm 19-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-17, 16-14 to earn a spot in the title match against Arizona (23-9) at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Tucson.
In the fifth set, Bowling Green trailed 11-9 before scoring three straight points on an attack error and kills from Lauryn Hovey and Jordan Newblatt. The match was then tied at 12, 13, and 14 before the Falcons closed things out with a Jessica Andrews kill and a block from Andrews and Mia Tyler.
