BOWLING GREEN — The Bowling Green State University football team honored its 17 seniors before Friday’s contest against Buffalo.
Then, on the first play from scrimmage, the Falcons tried a bit of trickery in an attempt to further honor a senior.
James Knapke started at quarterback for the Falcons, his first start since Sept. 24 at Memphis. He handed off to fellow senior Fred Coppet, and suddenly Coppet pitched the ball back to Knapke for a flea-flicker — only to see Buffalo sack Knapke for a 12-yard loss.
The good news for Bowling Green was that the sack was one of few bad plays in a 27-19 victory at Doyt Perry Stadium.
