Bowling Green State University overcame a slow start to take Western Carolina to overtime, but ultimately lost its men’s basketball season opener 79-71 to the Catamounts on Tuesday at the Liston B. Ramsey Regional Activity Center.
The Falcons (0-1) began the game without making a field goal until the 14:10 mark of the first half, when Samari Curtis converted a layup to cut Western Carolina’s lead to 12-3. They utilized that to spark a 9-0 scoring run, but WCU (1-0) pulled back ahead for a nine-point lead at halftime.
BGSU didn’t take the lead until there was 12:47 left in regulation, when Gabe O’Neal made a layup to put the Falcons ahead 43-42.
