The hockey program at Bowling Green State University might soon have a new conference affiliation.
BGSU, along with the six other Midwestern members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, announced late Friday afternoon that they have explored forming a new conference that would begin play in 2021-22.
According to a news release from spokesman Morris Kurtz, a consultant speaking on behalf of the schools — BGSU, Minnesota State, Bemidji State, Michigan Tech, Northern Michigan, Ferris State, and Lake Superior State — all seven have begun withdrawal proceedings from the WCHA.
The seven schools would remain in the WCHA for next season.
