BOWLING GREEN — Some teams have the luxury of a soft entry into the 2023 college hockey season.
Minnesota, for instance, gets Lindenwood, a team playing its first varsity game. Three of Bowling Green’s CCHA foes — Lake Superior State, Michigan Tech, and Minnesota State — play exhibitions out of the gate. Michigan, North Dakota, Maine, and others drop the puck against Canadian teams.
The Falcons have no such good fortune, as they’ll do battle with conference rival Northern Michigan in a two-game season-opening series in Marquette, Mich. on Saturday and Sunday. It marks the first time since 2017, when Bowling Green opened with Bemidji State, that the Falcons’ first series of the regular season has been against a league foe.
