BOWLING GREEN — Should the Bowling Green State University football team make a run at bowl eligibility this fall, defense could pave the way.
That’s a wild statement after the Falcons’ defense ranked near the bottom of the FBS from 2016 to 2020.
But BGSU saw a dramatic improvement last year under new defensive coordinator Eric Lewis, and with essentially the entire defense back, the Falcons appear to have the potential to be a major challenge for Mid-American Conference offenses.
In 2020, when the Falcons went winless, Bowling Green allowed an average of 45 points per game.
