BOWLING GREEN — Brian VanGorder is the new defensive coordinator at Bowling Green State University, the school announced Tuesday.
New Falcons head coach Scot Loeffler initially hired VanGorder to coach linebackers and serve as the associate head coach, but elevated VanGorder to defensive coordinator after Carl Pelini returned to Youngstown State.
Bowling Green also announced it will fill the linebackers/associate head coach position with Jim Herrmann, who has been an NFL linebackers coach with the New York Jets, New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts. Herrmann and Loeffler coached together at Michigan, where Hermann was the defensive coordinator from 1997 to 2005.
