BGSU's Fannin misses out on award for top tight end

Despite one of the greatest seasons for a tight end in college football history, Bowling Green State University star tight end Harold Fannin, Jr., came up short of winning the John Mackey Award on Thursday night.

Penn State senior Tyler Warren won the award, given annually to the nation’s most outstanding tight end. Fannin, who was one of three finalists, would have been the first player from the Mid-American Conference to win the honor in the 25-year history of the award.

Fannin, who last week was named the MAC player of the year and offensive player of the year, led all FBS tight ends in roughly 20 categories, including targets (128), receptions (100), receiving yards (1,342), receiving touchdowns (nine), missed tackles forced (31), and yards after catch (750), according to Pro Football Focus.
