DeKALB, Ill. — A career-high 32-point effort from Amy Velasco helped the Bowling Green State University women’s basketball team defeat Northern Illinois 82-73 in a Mid-American Conference contest Saturday at the Northern Illinois Convocation Center.
The Falcons (14-11, 8-6 MAC) pulled into a tie for fourth place with Buffalo with the victory. BGSU hosts the Bulls at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Northern Illinois (13-13, 6-8) sits in sole possession of seventh place with four games to go, a game ahead of eighth-place Ohio and Miami (Ohio).
After getting outscored 20-19 in the first quarter despite leading for the game’s first nine-plus minutes, Bowling Green topped Northern Illinois 22-17 in the second quarter to gain a four-point halftime lead.
