BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green State University’s softball program experienced arguably the lowest points of its nearly 50-year history the past couple of seasons.
But with the help of a veteran mentor who got her college coaching career started in northwest Ohio in the early 1990s, the Falcons have shown positive signs that can bode well for the future.
After going through its worst two-year stretch in program history with a combined 15-79 record in 2023 and 2024, BGSU is making strides under first-year coach Michelle Gardner. The Petersburg native, who starred at the University of Michigan before becoming an assistant coach at BGSU, has helped the Falcons (12-22, 4-6 Mid-American Conference) grow their confidence and compete with some of the best teams in the country.
