ATHENS, Ohio — As one of his first acts as Bowling Green’s interim coach, Carl Pelini suggested the idea of removing surnames from the backs of the Falcons’ jerseys.
The Bowling Green players agreed with Pelini’s message, aimed at showing team unity during a week in which the Falcons fired head coach Mike Jinks with the season still in progress.
So, with the blessing of the players, the Bowling Green equipment staff went to work on every jersey that made the trip to Athens.
Bowling Green, which wore its road white uniform with its orange helmet Saturday at Ohio, played the game without nameplates.
