CLEVELAND — Bowling Green State University’s men’s basketball team suffered its worst loss of the season as top-seeded Akron rolled to a 96-67 win in a Mid-American Conference tournament quarterfinal on Thursday at Rocket Arena in Cleveland.
Akron (26-6), which went 17-1 in league play during the regular season, advanced to Friday’s semifinals. BGSU, the No. 8 seed in the tournament, fell to 14-18.
The Zips made their first three shots from beyond the arc and eight in the first 12 minutes in taking a 24-9 lead. BGSU only trailed 42-30 at halftime, but Akron built a 23-point lead with 11:25 left after a four-point play from Bowen Hardman.
