BGSU hockey falls to Augustana in shootout

BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green State University hockey and Augustana went the distance Saturday in the finale of their two-game series at the Slater Family Ice Arena. After a 1-1 tie, the visiting Vikings won a three-round shootout to sweep the weekend set.

The Falcons, who were shut out 1-0 in Friday’s overtime loss, found their way onto the scoreboard in the first period Saturday. Seth Fyten made it 1-0 with just under two minutes to play in the first with assists from Jackson Niedermayer and Ville Immonen.

BGSU went 0 for 3 on the power play Saturday, finishing the weekend 0 for 7 overall with a man advantage, but the Falcons’ special-teams struggles got worse in the second period.
