BUFFALO — It had been a little while — by Bowling Green State University’s high standards — since the Falcons made a game-changing block in special teams.
The drought ended with a critical stuff on Saturday.
Avi McGary’s blocked punt was scooped up by teammate PaSean Wimberly, who darted 18 yards to the end zone for a touchdown, to highlight a dominating first half and defensive performance overall in the Falcons’ 24-14 Mid-American Conference win at Buffalo.
“[Special teams coordinator] Alex [Bayer] said all week that we’re going to block a punt, and he does a great job scheming and we’ve got good players,” BGSU coach Scot Loeffler said.
