BOWLING GREEN — When Scot Loeffler first started recruiting Ryan Mallett while working as the quarterbacks coach at the University of Michigan in the mid-2000s, he had pretty high praise for the signal-caller out of Texas.
Even after working with plenty of other quality quarterbacks in his 20-plus year coaching career, the current Bowling Green State University head coach said Mallett’s ability still stands out.
“He was hands down one of the most talented guys that I’ve ever been around or recruited,” Loeffler said late Tuesday night.
Mallett, who competed for Michigan in 2007, excelled at Arkansas for two years, and played for three teams in five seasons in the NFL, died on Tuesday in an apparent drowning.
