MANKATO, Minn. — For 58 minutes, the Bowling Green State University ice hockey team seemed poised to claim the first Western Collegiate Hockey Association title in school history.
The Falcons put together a sterling defensive effort that limited the scoring chances for one of the top offensive teams in college hockey. With two timely goals, BG cruised into the final minutes with a bit of a cushion.
But two man-advantage goals by Minnesota State forced overtime Saturday, and a goal by the Mavericks’ Nick Rivera just 1:37 into the extra period ruined all those Bowling Green dreams.
