BOWLING GREEN — A former football player at Bowling Green State University who said he suffered permanent brain injury following repeated concussions is to receive a $712,500 settlement from the university.
The Ohio Court of Claims on Monday approved the settlement for Cody Silk, a former redshirt freshman offensive lineman. Mr. Silk had claimed in his 2013 lawsuit that BGSU coaches and medical staff failed to withhold him from practices after he suffered repeated concussions.
The Court of Claims initially rejected Mr. Silk's claims that BGSU was responsible for his brain injuries, in part because like most college football players, he had signed a release of liability to play football.
