BOWLING GREEN — When a team meeting was called March 14 for the following day, Bowling Green State University baseball players knew something was wrong.
The short notice and the timing — finals week — was odd, and players had seen news reports about universities struggling financially during the coronavirus pandemic. College teams across the United States had cut back on travel and other expenditures, and some on the BGSU baseball team figured they might have to give up early-season trips to warm-weather tournaments.
But they could never imagine what has since become their current reality: A complete elimination of the program with no forewarning.
