BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Mike "Doc" Emrick announced his retirement from broadcasting with the NHL on Monday, Oct. 19. A 1976 graduate of BGSU, receiving his Ph. D in broadcast communications, Emrick has long been associated with the BGSU Hockey program. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2008, Emrick has been calling NHL games for over 40 years, including 22 Stanley Cup Finals.
Beginning with college and minor league games, Emrick worked his way into the NHL, being named the first voice of the New Jersey Devils prior to the start of the 1982-83 season, staying there until 1986 when he moved to the Philadelphia Flyers as an in-studio analyst.
