AKRON — A 3-pointer just downed and Akron within one point, Bowling Green had the Zips exactly where it needed them.
Instead, the game swung the other way — and the race for the top spot in the Mid-American Conference is very much up for grabs.
After Trey Diggs’ 3-pointer cut Akron’s lead to a single point with just more than 12 minutes to play, the Zips hit back with a 14-4 run that established control, and they never lost it in a 74-59 victory against BG on Tuesday at James A. Rhodes Arena.
Loren Cristian Jackson scored 28 points to lead all scorers as Akron (18-6, 8-3) pulled within one-half game of Bowling Green (18-7, 9-3) for the overall lead in the MAC.
