Steven Gerrard reveals that Tyrone Mings is still hurt and has been 'quieter' after being stripped of the Aston Villa captaincy with John McGinn taking his place as skipper for the coming campaign

Tyrone Mings is still feeling the effects of being axed as Aston Villa captain, his manager Steven Gerrard admitted.

Gerrard handed the armband to midfielder John McGinn and sent Mings, who had succeeded Jack Grealish as skipper a year ago, back to the ranks.

Mings may not be in Gerrard's first-choice team, with £26million summer signing Diego Carlos a certain starter at Bournemouth today.

Tyrone Mings served as Villa's captain last season as they finished 14th in the Premier League

'Tyrone has been slightly quieter,' Gerrard revealed. 'I'm sure it's still a little bit raw and he's still a little bit disappointed by my decision, which I accept.
