QPR move ahead of Nottingham Forest in race to sign Bournemouth's Steve Cook during January window with the defender in demand for his experience and leadership

Queens Park Rangers are front runners to sign experienced defender Steve Cook from Bournemouth.

Rangers, who lost 1-0 to Bournemouth on Monday, are close to agreeing personal terms with centre-back Cook.

Nottingham Forest are also interested in the 30 year-old but QPR are understood to be further down the line in finalising a deal for Cook.

Both Rangers and Forest are just outside the top six and Cook would add vital promotion know-how to their squads.

Cook has been at Bournemouth for over 10 years and a key figure in their rise from League One to the Premier League, making over 350 appearances for the south coast club.
