A pensioner has revealed his shocking facial injuries after being left battered and scarred for life when he tripped over a loose manhole cover.
Steve Leverington, 71, was walking his dog when he caught his foot on the raised cover on a pavement in West Parley, near Bournemouth, Dorset, causing him to fall forwards and land face-first on the ground.
The impact of the fall tore the skin off of his forehead. He also badly grazed his hands and knees while trying to break his fall.
Covered in blood, Mr Leverington was able to get up and return home but had to be taken to hospital for treatment.
