Abel Hernandez struck twice – his first Premier League goals in five months – to lift Hull off the bottom of the table.
Hernandez had been the hero seven days earlier in the cup win over Swansea but this victory, fashioned after Bournemouth took an early lead through a Junior Stanislas penalty, carries much greater significance.
Victory, wrapped up through an own goal from Tyrone Mings, means the team that Marco Silva inherited at the start of 2017 jumped above relegation rivals Sunderland and Swansea in the standings.
After two cup outings this was Silva's first taste of Premier League management.
