'He is always trying to improve': Unai Emery praises Tyrone Mings as Aston Villa defender looks to win back his place in the England squad and show Gareth Southgate that he's a better option than Harry Maguire

Gareth Southgate's controversial decision to persist with Harry Maguire will be highlighted once more when one of the players he has overlooked shows up at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Tyrone Mings has not played for England for more than a year but if the Aston Villa defender maintains current form his exile must surely end when Southgate next picks his squad.

The change in Mings’ fortunes has been one of the comeback stories of the season. Days before the season, Steven Gerrard removed Mings as captain and appeared to question his commitment after the 30-year-old had missed the opening day defeat at Bournemouth through injury.
