Furious Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic slammed a ‘shameful’ and ‘embarrassing’ penalty decision after their promotion hopes were ended by a 3-1 defeat at Brentford.
Bournemouth held a 2-0 aggregate lead after Arnaut Danjuma’s early goal in yesterday’s play-off semi-final second leg.
But Brentford's comeback started after referee Jarred Gillett awarded a penalty for handball against Lloyd Kelly.
Emiliano Marcondes’ cross struck the sliding defender’s outstretched arms, but Begovic said: ‘It’s an embarrassment of a decision… it’s never, ever a penalty in a million years.
