Jermain Defoe might not have crowned his first start since going back to Bournemouth with a goal but he left boss Eddie Howe purring.
The former England striker showed why Howe was happy to hand him a three-year contract worth upwards of £80,000 a week at the age of 34.
He was denied the 269th goal of his 18-year career by two brilliant Tomasz Kuszczak saves and a linesman's flag that ruled him just offside.

But he's almost certainly played his way into the side for Saturday's TV date with pre-season title favourites Manchester City as Howe searches for his first Premier League point of the season.
