The Red Sox’ minor league strength over the last couple of years is well-documented.
Boston’s Triple-A affiliate, the Worcester Red Sox, continued the trend Friday afternoon against the Rochester Red Wings by exploding for 20 runs on 26 hits.
Shortstop Marcelo Mayer was one of many stars of the game, clobbering a grand slam to center field in the top of the second inning to give the WooSox an 8-0 lead early. The 22-year-old launched a no-doubter that was hit 108 miles per hour and went 400 feet.
Watch Mayer’s third home run of the season:
He ended up finishing the day 2-for-7 at the plate with seven RBI.
