Why John Farrell pinch hit Chris Young for Travis Shaw -- and why he'll do it again

BOSTON -- A day later, manager John Farrell stood by his decision to hit Chris Young for Travis Shaw in the sixth inning of the Boston Red Sox's home-opener Monday at Fenway Park.

"We were down a run, an opportunity to have Chris Young against a left-handed pitcher (the Orioles' T.J. McFarland), in this ballpark, wind blowing out," Farrell said. "Chris has been strong against left-handed pitching. That's why we signed him here."
