Former Red Sox infielder Brock Holt threw out the first pitch at Tuesday’s game against the Rangers, and the moment took an emotional turn when he was surprised by a familiar face.
Holt and his wife Lakyn have close ties to the Jimmy Fund dating back to his tenure with the Red Sox, during which time he befriended a young cancer patient named Maddie LeClair.
The two developed a special bond, but LeClair died in 2017 at the age of 15 after a battle with osteosarcoma.
Maddie’s mother, Dawn LeClair, was brought out to join Holt as a surprise guest on Tuesday, with both of them throwing out the first pitch in honor of her.
